I like to leave Singapore after breakfast so as to reach Malacca in time for lunch. Give allowance for jams at customs on both sides of the Causeway, especially on weekends.
The speed limit on the North South highway is 110km/h, but it may be reduced to 80km/h at certain sections if there are road works going on.
Rest stops are located every 80 to 100 km, so if you have other drivers in your group, you can do a switchover when you stop for a break. The smaller rest stops are more basic with toilet facilities, while the bigger ones have the works: food stalls, snack kiosk, ATM machine, prayer room for Muslims, children’s playground and petrol stations.
The bigger ones en route to Air Keroh are Machap (at the 73km mark) and Pagoh (at the 145km mark).
The distance between Johor Bahru and Air Keroh is about 217km. If you factor in a short rest, you should reach Malacca in about three hours.
