The Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system is a means of optimising road usage. It uses short-range radio communication systems to deduct charges from smart-cards inserted in the in-vehicle units of vehicles each time they pass under a gantry when the system is in operation. This pay-when-you-use model helps motorists appreciate the true cost of driving.
