IT'S finally official.
Volkswagen released photos of the new Golf this week. This popular European model over 26 million have been sold is said to retain the same platform as before but is easier to manufacture.
This sixth-generation of Golf cars will completely redefine the quality and comfort level of their class over broad categories, offering more customer value than ever, according to VW chairman Martin Winterkorn.
The biggest changes are to the front and rear lamps, with the latter taking some cues from VW's Touareg.
There is also a new grille and a more distinct front bumper. And a 'character line' on the side gives the new car a lower stance.
Although the Golf is now sportier and more masculine, essential DNA such as the fat C-pillar is retained.
It will be the first Golf with adaptive chassis and automatic distance control.
And VW says ?innovative? engine and transmission technology will cut fuel consumption by as much as 28 per cent.
All petrol and diesel engines will comply with the future Euro 5 emission standard.
The conventional automatic transmission with torque converter has been dropped ? replaced across the range by either a six-speed or seven speed direct-shift gearbox.
This brilliant dual-clutch gearbox is fast and efficient, allowing for sporty driving as well as better fuel economy.
The new Golf will also have a new electronic stability program, with a finer response over its control range, as well as seven airbags including a knee airbag.
Noise reduction has been achieved with features such as a special damping film on the windscreen, new door and window seals and re-shaped door mirrors.
The European launch will begin in October.
Volkswagen Group Singapore says the car will arrive here in the second quarter of 2009.
Time for a new round of Golf then. |
