De-registering Your Vehicle
...........................................................................................................

After you’ve had it with your car, and are thinking of getting rid of it, you’ll need to de-register the automobile. Rolling your car over a precipice or dumping it into a reservoir just doesn’t cut it, and these acts could get you incarcerated.  These are the things you would need to do in order to de-register your vehicle.

  • Obtain a Transaction PIN from LTA. In brief, a Transaction PIN supplants the vehicle log cards that LTA formerly issued to every registered vehicle. It is now a prerequisite for a range of vehicle-related transactions, particular those that involve change of ownership (e.g. transfer, de-registration). For security reasons, a PIN can be used only once, and the car owner would have to apply again to LTA in the event he needs another PIN. Check out ONE.MOTORING for more information on the Transaction PIN and how to get one.
  • Bring your car to an LTA appointed Electronic Service Agent (most major car dealers would be agents by now) together with the following documents:
    - A duly completed de-registration application form;
    - Your identity card (if you’re Singaporean or Malaysian) or your passport if you from elsewhere; and
    - An authorisation letter if you are de-registering on behalf of the owner.

You may need to negotiate the trade-in value of your car with the motor dealer, but by and large, the dealer takes over the de-registration process from this point forth, and you need not concern yourself further.

PARF & COE Rebates

If you would recall, when you first bought your vehicle, you paid for a Certificate of Entitlement (COE) and also footed the Additional Registration Fee (ARF). Good news – after you have de-registered your car, you are entitled to rebates based on these two fees that you’ve paid previously. These rebates are respectively known as COE rebate and PARF rebate.

Take a look at ONE.MOTORING to see how to compute your rebates.
